It's almost here!

Yikes! We just had our last official planning meeting this past Sunday, which means that time is running out for getting your r.s.v.p. cards back to us. Please do so SOONER, rather than later.

I want to address some of the sentiments the committee have heard when we make our phone calls to our fellow classmates. The number one comment given when reluctance for attending the reunion is expressed is "I wasn't very popular," or "No one will remember me."

We, the committee, have this to say in response: "No one on this planning committee was "In with the IN crowd." None of us were popular." It didn't stop us from banding together and getting to know each other all over again.

So while you may be feeling a little insecure about seeing everyone again, it's no reason to prevent yourself from having a good time! There is one thing everyone on the committee has learned from this reunion planning experience, and that is, our class is full of interesting, vital individuals who have fascinating stories and experiences to share. That includes YOU!

Set aside your anxieties, and come to the party with an open mind and heart. We believe you will be pleasantly surprised on how much all of us have in common, and you just might make some new friends.

Another thing that's been floating around is that some people are holding out, thinking that they'll just show up and pay at the door. Of course we won't turn anyone away, but know this:
  • Meal count is determined by the number of people who pay in advance. If you show up last minute, there might not be a meal for you. And yes, you would still have to pay to get in.
  • Because we have several entree' selections, we will have place cards (assigned seating for dinner,) to help the servers know who ordered what. You won't have a place card or a name badge if you don't let us know in advance that you're coming. Everyone will know that you were a hold out when they don't see your name badge!
If you like, you can pay half the ticket price now when you send in your r.s.v.p. card, and the balance at the door. Just let us know you're coming so we can prepare.

Last but not least...more photos are starting to come in! Thank you! But we still need pics from more people. Don't be shy, and get them in soon. Danny needs time to put the show together. Deadline is July 19th, but sending them in today would be so much better.

See you all soon!

Flying Turkeys...

For those of you who didn't know the answer to the poll question about the quote "As God is my witness..." it is from a WKRP in Cincinatti episode where Station Manager, Arthur Carlson (Gordon Jump), arranged to have live turkeys dropped from a helicopter as an advertising stunt.

Their tragic "last flight" was relayed to WKRP listeners by reporter Les Nessman, played by Richard Sanders:

"It's a helicopter, and it's coming this way. It's flying something behind it, I can't quite make it out, it's a large banner and it says, uh - Happy... Thaaaaanksss... giving! ... From ... W ... K ... R... P!! No parachutes yet. Can't be skydivers... I can't tell just yet what they are, but - Oh my God, Johnny, they're turkeys!! Johnny, can you get this? Oh, they're plunging to the earth right in front of our eyes! One just went through the windshield of a parked car! Oh, the humanity! The turkeys are hitting the ground like sacks of wet cement! Not since the Hindenberg tragedy has there been anything like this!"

Thank you Monica Pacheco Ojeda! Thank you Matt Jackson!

A big thank you and high five to Monica for coming through with her big collection of SA'centric photographs! Paul is carefully scanning said images and will be returning the originals to Monica a.s.a.p.

We also want to thank Matt for sharing photos of his family and for digging up vintage images of Jon Wallace and Louis Ydrogo!

You too can help make our reunion that much more fun by sending us your photographs. They don't have to be vintage. They can be current pics of your family, your hobbies, your accomplishments...whatever you want to share with all of us. Here's Paul's email: paulvohsing@hotmail.com

Don't have the time or the technology to send us digitals? Send your originals to Paul at 11712 Martha Ann Drive, Los Alamitos, CA 90720 (some of you live within walking distance of Paul.) He'll scan your pictures for you and return them safely.

Don't delay, send those photos today!

Disabled Slide Show

As the slide show feature of this blog was temperamental at best, I've temporarily disabled it. Look for it again in a few weeks.

Informal pre-reunion-party mixer

We’re seeking your feedback on the location for our informal mixer on Friday night, August 1. With so many choices in Long Beach we’d like to hear where you would like to go. Here are some options:

a) Fun, casual mixed-age crowd, music filled, drinking, dancing place where we can get down and get funky?. (like Buster's at the Marina)
b) Quiet, upscale, mellow place to have conversation with trendy (expensive) cocktails (like Spaghettini).
c) Theme type place where oldies reign and drinks are cheap (like the Hop).
d) Pike - hip, young atmosphere with a number of restaurants and bars within the area (can be pricy with cover charges.)
e) Restaurant bar near the water, no music necessarily (like Joe’s Crab Shack.)
